Father's Day Excitement

This afternoon we went to Kurt's parents' house to swim and celebrate Father's Day.  We swam and plated until it rained; then we went inside to play.  Macey went to the bathroom, but she won't let anyone stay in with her.  She shut the door, and when I went to open it, it was locked.  Cheri and Ronny's doors are super thick- 2.5 inches of solid wood.  And they deadbolt from the inside with no way to open them from the outside (there's no keyhole or anything, the deadbolt is only inside). Also, none of us adults (Julie, Kurt, or me) ever lock the door b/c we've all tried to turn the deadbolt before and it's gotten stuck.  I never thought she would be able to turn it!

When I realized it, I ran and got Julie and Cheri.  They tried to get her out while I ran and got Kurt, Hank, and Ronny.  Everyone was standing by the door, trying to talk to her and get her to turn the deadbolt the other way. She was telling us that she couldn't because it was too hard.  She kept saying, "Open this door Mommy!"  Ronny and Hank tried for a while to take the doorknob off, but it wouldn't work.  Macey was in a good mood and happy, but we were realizing there was no way to get her out!  Kurt and I were in a complete panic. I called 911 and told them my 3 year old was locked in the bathroom.  They kept asking me who I wanted them to send; police or fire.  I told them I didn't care who they sent as long as they could get her out!

These are the coloring pages and crayons we sent under the door.  She quickly shoved them back out to us.  We also sent in Kurt's iphone and that came flying back out. :)  She was in no mood to play!

While we waited Ronny and Hank went and got a hammer and decided to knock a hole in the sheet rock in the wall that is perpendicular to the wall with the door.  The idea was that we could stick out hand through the hole and unlock the door. After they knocked a huge hole in the wall, we all remembered that the bathroom is paneled in thick solid wood.  (That sounds 70s, but it's horizontal, painted, and nice looking. :) )  There was no way we could get through that without a saw.  Macey had been in there at least 15 min at this point and the banging scared her.  She was crying so hard, but I could tell she was trying not to cry, which was making me cry harder.  I was trying to talk to her about all kinds of stuff, but she was just saying, "Mommy, I want you."

Finally, the firemen got there (Ronny and Cheri's address is wrong so they were driving on the wrong street for over 10 min.).  I don't really know what they were doing, but they tried to get through the wall as well.  Macey and I were both pretty much hysterical at the point, and trying to get through the wall took at least 8-10 min. I just remember them standing around discussing how to get her out.  Kurt told them to move b/c he was going to get a chain saw and cut down the door.  Then the fireman said, "Oh you don't care if we hurt the door?"  He was so nice, but I just wanted to scream!  I said, "I don't care if you rip this whole house down, just get her out!"  He went and got this huge crowbar with a sharp tooth looking thing on the end and pried the door open.  Poor little Macey was so scared.  It broke my heart!  She has been telling the story and saying, "and I was so scared and those good men {she thought they were bad men until we told her they were nice} got me out."

I don't think the Honey Badger will be locking doors anytime soon!  Thankfully our doors aren't as thick, so I think we could kick them in.  

4 months and 3 years

This is so long ago, but I can't remember anything else so I'm posting it!


William is 4 months now!  He is still the sweetest baby.  He laughs, smiles, and is so happy all the time!  When he cries, which is rare, it's only b/c he's hungry or tired.  Once you figure out what is wrong and fix it, he is happy again!  This past month and a half, he had 2 ear infections.

JH lost his jacket at school. He said, "It's okay we will get another one."  I told him we had to use his money from the good choice jar (they get a coin in the good choice jar when they do something really good or say yes ma'am or sir; I was going to use marbles but didn't have any). He said, "Well let's just make it a cheap one, so I have enough money left over for legos. I only want to spend like 9 bucks."

I see some similarities between JH and William, but Macey looks completely different to me.  People do ask me all the time if JH and Macey are twins though, so other people must think they look alike!

7 months

-William moves around the room like an inch worm when we put him on the floor.  Last night (6/9) I decided he is considered mobile.  He inches all around, and I can't leave his side b/c he's inching to toys or crayons and trying to put them in his mouth. 

-He is still a terrible sleeper! I am writing this at 3:30 b/c he's been up all night.  Last night was the best night in a while; he slept 10:30-3:30 and 3:30-6:30.  It was great!

-He still loves to laugh at John Henry and Macey.  He gets so excited when we go wake them up in the mornings.

-We went to the beach for Memoral Day and he cried almost the whole way home. We had to stop 5 times.  The second we would get him out of his car seat, he would stop crying and start smiling.  Ever since then, he has really not liked being in the car.

-At his 6 month checkup (which was really a week before he turned 7 months), he weighed 16 lbs, 10 oz. (He did have to go to the doctor the day after he turned 6 months and he weighed 16 lbs, 4 oz.)   JH weighed just a little less, but William just seems so much bigger than JH did! 

-Right now he naps about an hour after he wakes up.  Usually in the car on the way to Starbucks.  (The Venti caramel macchiato is the only thing keeping me going right now; I'm so tired all the time.)  He wakes up when we get home and naps again when Macey does for about 2 hours.  Then he takes another small nap before bed.  Both of my other kids were napping 2 times a day at this point, but we are going so many places right now that 2 naps just won't work for us.  He's a pretty laid back baby! He loves to nap in the boppy!  

-He still has to be swaddled to sleep.  Lately he has fallen asleep a few times not swaddled, but he always wakes up and can't go back to sleep.  I don't know how to break the swaddle, but it works for right now.

-We fed him food about a week after he turned 7 months.  He loves it!  He ate almost the whole jar of peas for 2 nights in a row.  Then I kind of forgot about feeding him food for a week or so.  He ate carrots one night and loved them too.  I need to remember, but after I get everyone fed and ready for bed, poor William is just ready to go to sleep!

John Henry
-He just finished Kindergarten!  I can't believe I am about to have a 1st grader!  He had a great year; loved his teacher and learned a lot.

-While Macey naps this summer, JH and I are doing some workbooks to get ready for 1st grade.  He does a great job, but he's sooooooo slow.  He wants to draw a picture and tell a story with each question I ask.  The other day he drew bugs and I swear one math page of 6 problems took us 30 min. b/c he drew all the bugs and made them so detailed. 

-JH went to VBS with his friend Ava this week.  They had so much fun!
-I love having him home during the day and having nowhere we have to be, but he and Macey fight constantly.  Right now his face is all scratched up b/c they got into a fight and Macey attacked him. :(. 

-JH is taking golf lessons and loves them.  He has gotten a lot better and can hit the ball pretty far and really straight.

Macey
-She's potty trained!  We've been working on it awhile, so I'm so glad she's finally decided to do it.  She has had the teeteeing part down, but she refused to poop in the potty.  We tried every bribe we could think of, but nothing worked.  On Sunday Kurt told her she had to poop in the potty and she said, "Tomorrow I'll do it" which is the same thing she has said for months.  On Monday I told her to put on underwear. She did and went to the potty all day long.  I'm so happy potty training is over, but I will say that diapers are so much easier!

-Today I had a meeting so I took Macey to Kurt's office for 1.5 hours.  She had so much fun! Kurt set her up a desk that had a phone and a computer to watch tv, and she thought she was so important.  It was so cute.  Kurt has a biohazard sign on his office door from this winter when we were so sick.  When Macey got there, he printed a honey badger and put it on the door too.  I was cracking up when I saw it.  I asked Macey what it was and she said, "That's me when I was an animal."  I told her it was a honey badger and she said, "No, it's animal Macey!"  :). 

-If I am mad at them or fake cry, she runs up to me and says, "Happy Mother's Day!"  She knew that made me happy on Mother's Day and she doesn't want me to be sad. :) 

She fell and hit the rock fireplace. This was the biggest bump I have ever seen but she was so tough (of course !). She only cried a second. 

-Twice this week John Henry has told me that I am a bad mom.  The first time Macey was mad at me for making her take a bath.  She saw JH get in trouble so she didn't want to tell me I was a bad mom (plus she's more sensitive to my feelings so I think she would have felt guilty).  She looked right at me and said, "Day Day is telling the truth."  I laughed so hard.  I can't believe she thought that through. Yesterday JH told me I was a bad mom and she said, "John Hooey, Ava (his bff) doesn't call her mom Emily bad words.  She calls her mommy nice words.  Right Mommy?  Ava doesn't get in trouble for calling Emily bad words."  Macey is SO funny!

5 Months!

I am so mad at myself for not writing about William on here, but life has been crazy.  Since Halloween, we have had 12 cases of the stomach virus (4 separate sicknesses, Kurt got 1 and I got 1, Macey and JH got the other 10!), 4 cases of strep, the flu 2x (all of the the first time and we are in the midst of the 2nd one now- so far it's Kurt, Macey, JH, and I'm starting to feel bad), countless pink eyes, RSV/bronchiolitis for William, horrible colds for the older kids, and fever viruses.  We literally have not been well more than a week for over 5.5 months.  John Henry has missed more than 20 days of school. Thank the Lord that he is smart enough to keep up and he has a great teacher.  I kept Macey home from Halloween to April to avoid germs, but when she kept getting sick, I sent her back.  For 3 days.  Now we are sick again!  I keep saying next week will be better, and I'm always wrong.  Maybe next week!

William is the sweetest baby.  He is so happy and smiley.  He loves to laugh at John Henry and Macey and Kurt and is in a good mood most of the time.  When he cries it's only b/c he's hungry or tired.  He does cry in the car if I don't feed him before I put him in his seat.  He loves his paci and rolling around on the floor.  You can't put him down without watching him b/c he rolls far away. He loves to play with toys and his exersaucer. When we go out, I wear him in the Ergo.  He likes it and usually falls asleep.  He can't sit up yet, but is starting to sit if he can prop himself up on his hands.  The kids love him so much.  They aren't jealous at all and get so excited to see him each day.

We really have no schedule b/c someone is always yelling and waking him up.   A typical day, I wake up at 7 and carry him downstairs to sleep in his pack n play while I get JH ready for school.  He wakes up at some point and eats, stays awake an hour or so, then takes a short nap.  He stays up for a few hours, then naps again while Macey naps around 12.  He takes one or two more shorts naps that afternoon.

I don't know if it's the sicknesses or just 3 kids, but 3 kids is much harder than 2!  Poor William is always wearing pjs out in public which I thought I would never ever do!  HIs month pictures have been at least 2 weeks late each time, but I figured I'd just put the right date b/c I'm not going to remember that when I look at them in 20 years.  :)

This picture cracks me up.  I can only see tiny thumbnails when I choose them so I just picked one.  Obviously this wasn't the best one.  The pjs are keeping it real.  December was the month of the stomach virus and January (this pic was taken late I'm sure!) was the month of Flu A so we didn't get dressed much. 

Easter!  I didn't get a family pic or one of all the kids.  I need to make everyone dress up again and get one! JH is holding R5 from a Star Wars Lego set, which is huge at our house this year.
